Tornesch

Tornesch 1042 (2000–2024) was a bay KWPN stallion who became a global icon of resilience and showjumping excellence. While the equestrian world mourned his passing in November 2024 at the age of 24, his legacy in March 2026 is more prominent than ever as his offspring dominate international 5* leaderboards.
Commonly known as the "one-eyed wonder," Tornesch proved that heart and partnership transcend physical limitations, competing at the highest levels of the sport for years after losing his right eye.
The Legend of the "One-Eyed Wonder"
Tornesch’s career under Swedish star Malin Baryard-Johnsson is one of the most storied in showjumping.
-
Overcoming Adversity: In 2013, after years of struggling with an injury, his right eye was surgically removed. Rather than ending his career, the surgery improved his comfort; he returned to the ring "better than ever," continuing to jump at the 1.60m level.
-
Top-Level Success: He was a pillar of the Swedish team, competing in multiple World Cup Finals (2011, 2013, 2014) and European Championships. His victories included the CSIO5* Nations Cup in Falsterbo and the Grand Prix of Stockholm.
-
Retirement: He officially retired from top sport in 2015 at the London Olympia Horse Show, subsequently serving as a schoolmaster for his owners' daughter before moving into full-time breeding.
