Calypso d'Herbiers (1990–2017) was a legendary chestnut Selle Français stallion who achieved a feat virtually unheard of in modern sport: he was a national champion in three different disciplines. Standing at 1.65m, he was the ultimate "all-rounder," possessing the elegance for dressage, the bravery for eventing, and the scope for 5* show jumping.
Calypso d'Herbiers holds a unique place in French breeding history due to his extraordinary versatility as a young horse:
-
Triple French Champion (1994): At age four, he became the first (and only) stallion to be crowned French Champion in Hunter, Dressage, and Show Jumping in the same year.
-
Three-Year Streak: Between 1993 and 1995, he won the French Stallion Championship for his age group three years in a row.
-
The Derby Specialist: As he matured, he focused on show jumping, where he earned an elite ISO 179. His crowning achievement was winning the prestigious CSIO5 Derby of La Baule* in 2004 under Reynald Angot, a test of stamina and courage.
-
Nations Cup Winner: He was a key member of the winning French team at the CSIO5 Rome Nations Cup*.
